Mbouda: Man attempts to burn wife and kids to death in house

In thw Bambutos Division, West Region, of Cameroon, a man named, Ferdinand who had reportedly been threatening his wife has finally executed the evil plan he had all along.

He allegedly set his family residence ablaze with his wife and children in it. Everything in the house ranging from books, kitchen utensils, household appliances all got consumed in the flames.

Currently receiving intensive medical attention at the hospital, his wife who survived the tragedy recounts the incident.

“When I returned from the market, I met my husband who was drunk as usual. He started talking to me and scolding but I kept quiet because if I talked back then he would have gotten even angrier… he attacked the child first with a big log of wood. It took the timely intervention of the neighbors to save the child from him…” she narrated

She adds that “… when the log of wood was taken away from him, he told us he would burn down the house, but we all thought he was joking…. It took me unaware and I had my hair and parts of my face burnt.”

Amongst their 6 children, 4 were seriously burnt in the house set ablaze while the other two who were not inside the house at the time of the fire were unharmed.

While his wofe and kids nurse their wounds in hospital, Ferdinand is under detention at the Mbouda gendarmerie. In his defence, he says the reason for his actions were due to the fact that his wife and children often showed lack of respect for him.
