Medicine Du Monde Takes Fight against Gender-Based Violence To Uba

By Timfuchi Aaron

Some students of the Department of Communication and Development Studies of the University of Bamenda have partnered with a civil society organization, Doctors of the World in creating awareness on gender-based violence in the university milieu.

The University students in a contest organized by the NGO produced documentaries to portray the different forms of gender-based violence and encourage survivors to break the silence.

The project manager of Doctors of the World, Singeh Helen Yensi, and her team are collaborating with the department to produce audio and video documentaries.

Helen Yensi noted that victims of Gender Based Violence, GBV are stigmatized due to the way the media reports about GBV.

She says if the students are trained on how to report on gender-based violence, it will help see how they can fight against the practice.

The best video documentary producer, Adoration Penkwang, sees the opportunity as a springboard to do more. “I will talk until my voice will lose meaning and so it’s time to take action”, she said.

The overall winners of the audio documentary were Ngwi Brandy and Sikem Noella. Both overall winners went home with 300.000FCFA and 200.000FCFA respectively
