The Senior Divisional Officer of Meme Division in the Southwest, Chamberlain Ndong, has revealed that two Nigerians are among 14 youths identified for beating an innocent boy, Yanick Moiti, to death at Bole Bakundu village last week.

The SDO said the military arrested 24 suspects among which 14 directly participated in beating and killing Moiti last Saturday, April 1.

“24 persons have been arrested, among them 14 clearly identified as those who tortured that young boy called Moiti. Among the 14 we are having two Nigerians and the remaining are Cameroonians,” the SDO said in an interview with Equinoxe television.

“All those suspects are under custody. The forces of law and order will continue to work very hard in order to identify all those criminals who are not behaving like those who are fearing even God. To kill an innocent boy like what they did to that Moiti is something completely unacceptable,” he added.

Yanick Moiti, a 23-year-old orphan living at Bole Bakundu village, was seized by a group of youths who tortured and hanged him upside-down after accusing him of stealing a mobile phone.

In a viral video, Yanick could be seen pleading not guilty just before he was hanged and whipped to death.

Yanick was buried just after he had died.

After news of the incident went viral, soldiers descended on Bole Bakundu village in the early hours of Tuesday, April 4, where they arrested 24 people.

The suspects were taken to Kumba, Meme Divisional headquarters, where they have been detained.
