The traditional ruler of Baforkum, a village in Cameroon’s restive North West Region, is reported dead. The corpse of the Fon who had been abducted by separatist fighters, locals say, was returned last night, leaving them in shock.
“The boys came in the night with the Fon and fired gunshots three times just near the Baforkum fishpond” a local tells MMI.
He adds that “the body was found at the same spot where the military took and killed a boy few months back”.
The nature of the traditional ruler’s death however remains disputed. A local says “Yesterday some of the Amba boys came to ask for money saying he was sick. His wife gave some money and later in the night, we saw his corpse”.
After over a month in captivity, the body of the deceased reportedly looked worn out probably from maltreatment and torture.
The now deceased traditional ruler is one of others to suffer similar or the same fate in the hands of their captors since the start of the Anglophone crisis.
Traditional and administrative authorities in the locality are yet to make any official declarations, or point fingers at anyone following the recent happening.
