The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam Division, Simon Emile Mooh, has blamed the killing of Bamenda-based journalist, Anye Nde Nsoh, on “armed terrorists” a term usually used by government officials to describe Ambazonia separatist fighters.

In a release published on Monday, May 8, Mooh said: “a group of armed terrorists” shot and killed Anye at Ntarikon neighborhood in Bamenda II Subdivision about 9pm on Sunday.

He describes the journalist’s killing as “despicable, unacceptable and heinous act of violence”, stating that the administration will fetch the perpetrators for prosecution.

“The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam reassures the population and public opinion that investigations are ongoing to throw light on this villainous crime and to bring to book these bands of outlaw, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force,” the SDO wrote.

He also called on the population to “fully and sincerely collaborate” with the administration and the military to track down the perpetrators.

Reports say Anye Nsoh, a sports writer and reporter for The Advocate Newspaper, was caught by a stray bullet during gunfire in Bamenda on Sunday evening.

His death disheartened many journalists, including his boss, Tarhyang Enowbikah, who had edited news articles with him two hours earlier.

Separatist fighters in Bamenda have not made any comment about the journalist’s death.
