Barrister Michele Ndoki, a politician, who recently announced her intention to create the Nation Builders Movement, took to her social media platforms to express outrage over the recent killings that overshadowed the National Day celebrations.

National Day celebrations in Cameroon were marred by tragedy yesterday, May 20th, following the killings of three prominent figures in Bello, Boyo Division. The deceased included Dr. Ngong Innocent Ankiambom, Mayor of Bello, Aghi Aaron Ngong, Inspector of Basic Education, and a Municipal Councillor.

Ndoki’s central criticism focused on the government’s perceived inaction in addressing the ongoing violence that claimed these lives.

“They were killed because our government did not care enough to protect them from violence in their region,” Ndoki wrote. “Yet another unnecessary loss of life. We need an executive that does better. Now is the time to choose us over them.”

Ndoki’s strong words capture the frustration felt by many towards the Biya administration. The celebratory mood surrounding National Day appeared to dissipate in the wake of this tragedy, with many questioning the government’s commitment to safety and security in troubled regions.

While details surrounding the killings remain unclear, Michele Ndoki’s scathing response underscores the simmering discontent with the government’s handling of the violence in the ongoing Anglophone crisis, which has claimed thousands of lives, many of whom are civilians. It’s likely that further information on the incident and the official response will emerge in the coming days.
