Locals of Mile 4, a locality in the seaside city of Limbe have decried an impromptu search of their homes by police officers.
The security officers visited the locality in the early hours of Saturday and coordinated multiple arrests.
“Those who did not have ID cards were arrested,” a resident says.
“Some who didn’t have their ID cards bribed and were allowed to go,” he adds, saying “some who went for morning prayers or to buy something at the road without their ID cards were all taken”.
Such raids have become the norm in the country’s English-speaking regions over the past four years, as the armed conflict between government forces and separatist fighters intensifies.
Many have denounced the raids, noting that they serve as a vector for exploitation and extortion by the forces of law and order.
