Military Court Slams 16 Months Sentence On Four Members of Stand Up for Cameroon

Four members of the Stand Up for Cameroon movement have been sentenced to sixteen months in prison by the Douala Military Court.

The verdict was handed down today, December 31, 2021, by the Douala Military Court fifteen months after the activists were arrested and held in pretrial detention.

The four whose names are Etienne Ntsama, Moussa Bello, Mira Angoung, and Tehle Membou, were arrested on September 18, 2020, and transferred to prison on September 22, 2020.

After being charged for conspiracy of revolution and insurrection, the military court verdict finds them not guilty of revolution, but guilty of insurrection, and asked them to pay a trial cost of 376, 000 FCFA.

According to several tweets on the official handle of the CPP, and national President of Stand Up for Cameroon, Edith Kah Walla, a fifth member, Nana Collins arrested on the day the four above were detained, had earlier on received an eighteen months jail term.

On behalf of the movement, the President, Kah Walla, thanks public mobilizers for their support for the fight against unjust arrests and detention.

While noting that the Douala Military Court judgment is just another strengthener for a much stronger fight for leadership change, the movement pledges its availability to work in line with the desires of the majority of Cameroonians.

A similar sentence was meted on some three members of the CRM political party after their arrest and detention as a result of the September 22, 2020 protest.
