Media outlets and the public eye have for the last couple of hours been focused on the February 14 massacre in Ngarbuh after government said it was punishing perpetrators of the incident.
While some rejoice, residents of Muanbong village in Bangem Subdivision, South West region have been targets of a raid that have seen six persons killed.
“The military entered our village today and had six people killed; three amba boys who dropped their guns due to fear and 3 civilians, all men” an inhabitant of the village says.
Even without any resistance, the soldiers “shot the ones (ex separatist fighters who dropped their weapons… there was no battle they just picked people at their door steps,” he adds.
The action carried out by soldiers once more puts to question the role of the centers for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration meant to transform and reintegrate separatist fighters back to society.
Today’s incident also contributes to worries earlier expressed by many over government’s sincerity regarding the massacre and other crimes allegedly committed by soldiers in the restive North West and South West regions in the course of the anglophone crisis.
