At least, four civilians are reported to have been killed following a military onslaught in the village of Mavass, Akwaya sub division of the restive south West region of Cameroon.

The incident Thursday is also reported to have left others with severe injuries.

A source said “…breaking this morning (Thursday), soldiers came at about 4am and hide in the bushes. so there were about some seven young boys (civilians)who were going to Nigeria to sell their Coacoa. Unfortunatly for them, they came accross the soldiers who were hiding in the bushes that early morning and they open fire on them killing four innocent boys at the sport and three seriously wounded”.

“As i chat with you, the military is every where in Mavass village” said the source who also disclosed that amongst those killed is the son of a certain Ageh John.

The shootings in Akwaya comes amidst growing tensions in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.

Soldiers have frequently been accused of targeting civilians in the crisis-hit regions.
