Cameroon’s Ministry of Defence, MINDEF, has flown 11 soldiers to England as the country prepares to coronate King Charles III on May 6.

In a message, MINDEF said the soldiers left for England on Thursday, April 27, to begin rehearsing a military parade that will take place during the coronation. The soldiers were drawn from the gendarmerie, army, air force, and the navy, MINDEF said, adding that they are headed by Major Foming Rodrigue Boris.

“On special invitation from the King of England, His Royal Highness King Charles III, former Prince of Wales, having inherited the throne of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, that the delegation of the Cameroon Defence Forces travelled to England to participate in the parade on the occasion of his coronation,” MINDEF wrote.

Cameroon’s defence forces got an invitation to participate at the coronation parade thanks to the country’s membership in the Commonwealth of Nations, an organisation of Britain and its former colonies.

Cameroon has enjoyed Commonwealth membership since November 1, 1995, when it was recognised as a full member of the institution.

The Cameroonian delegation is going to be among thousands of invitees from around the world who will be attending the mega event that will take place at Westminster Abbey.

A coronation last held in England in 1953, when Elizabeth II became queen at the age of 25.Her death on September 8, 2022, paced the way for her first son, Charles, to become King Charles III.
