The government of Cameroon through the ministry of defence has distanced itself from social media allegations that a suspected Cameroonian murderer in Italy was a spy.

In a communique signed Tuesday, May 4, 2021, Cyril Serge Atongfack Nguemo, head of the communication unit at the ministry of defence confirms that the suspect by name Ngouenet Jacques Honore deserted from the Cameroon defence force in December 2020 and resettled in Italy.
Noticing his prolonged absence, Cyril Serge Atongfack adds that the ministry of defense, following its rules, dismissed the man in question.

The ministry of defence adds that Cameroon doesn’t have spies in Italy as circulated on the social media.

Ngouenet Jacques Honore is accused of killing his girlfriend called Emma Pezemo and later committed suicide in the city of Balegne in Italy. The native of Baleveng in Menoua division in the West region of Cameroon is reported to have had mental issues.

Observers say if allegations that the man was a spy sent by the Cameroon government to Italy are true, then it can strain relations between the governments of Cameroon and that of Italy.
