MINREX Qualifies As Untrue, Media Reports On kuwait Returnees

In a release on Monday October 15th the minister delegate in the ministry of external relations Felix Mbayu deplored media hype on the conditions of Cameroonian girls enslaved in Kuwait, which according to him should be protected rather being given wide media coverage exposing them to danger from the network of human traffickers.

A statement contrary to the views of these ladies whom upon arrival at the Douala international airport Sunday October 14th expressed gratitude to the media for bringing their distress conditions to the forefront leading to a positive outcome.

In a second video circulation’s on social media, Tikum Sydonie and Elizerbert Nanje Wasse, two of 12 Cameroonian girls who are still trapped in slavery in Kuwait expressed immense gratitude for the media and people of good Will for their support, which they say is yielding fruits.

Tikum Sydonie who is expected in Cameroon soon, said her flight and all other necessary arrangements were made possible by a NGO whose name she mentioned.

Surprisingly, the minister accused non governmental organizations of using the distress situation of the girls to make selfish ends.

Elisabeth Nanje Wasse on that same video said they were promised help, which never came, though she failed to say who promised them. She went further to thank the general public for helping them at the time when they needed help most.

However it is alleged that the girls had made several attempts for help to the government which did not yield fruit, until when the daring video, recounting their ordeal was picked up by the press.

The ministry of external relations condemned the sitiation, and promised bitter days for the network traffickers who purportedly extort money from the victims with fake promises of better jobs abroad. He added that some of them have already fallen into the drag net of the law.

The government also used the opportunity to call on youths to be vigilante and guide against enticing invitation of human trafficking network which lure them to prospect of easy migration crowned with readily available jobs abroad.

Though many think the government should rather focus on the push factors and improve the chances of success for youths in the country, as Some of the girls are graduates.

With the arrival of eight of these girls at the Douala international airport Sunday October 14th 3018, reports say about 12 are still in Kuwait, placed under inhuman conditions.
The government says it is working on a large scale project to repatriate all Cameroonians in Kuwait.
