Francis Ngannou has received congratulations from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (Minsep) in Cameroon as well as opposition politician, Maurice Kamto, following his brilliant victory in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
The former UFC champion defeated Brazilian national Renan Ferreira by knockout to claim the Professional Fighters League (PFL) heavyweight title.
According to the Ministry of Sports, Ngannou’s victory proves his “excellence in MMA and proudly raises the colours of Cameroon to the top of the world sport.”
A state signed by sports minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi said, “Congratulations, Francis! You make an entire nation proud!”
Similarly, prominent opposition politician Maurice Kamto has congratulated The Predator, Ngannou.
“Congratulations to our champion, Francis Ngannou, on this brilliant victory,” Kamto said.
He added that Ngannou is “a source of pride for Cameroon and indeed for Africa, and a source of inspiration for a whole generation.”
He urged all Cameroonians to keep working hard to reach the top as he saluted Ngannou for a job “well done.”.
Ngannou received accolades from across the world, including from UFC star Jon Jones.
However, most elites from his native West region in Cameroon are yet to publicly congratulate him.
It is more than 24 hours since the match, but prominent West regional elite like Marcel Niat Njifenji, Senate President; Jean De Deu Momo, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice; and Celestine Ketcha Courtes, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Senator Francios Puene, among others, are yet to comment.
After winning the match against Rena Feirerra, Francis Ngannou dedicated the victory to his 15-month-old son, Kobe, who passed away earlier this year.
He said Kobe’s death almost ended his fighting career, but he decided to fight for him.
The match took place in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, on Sunday, October 20 and lasted less than four minutes due to Ngannou’s early knockout.
Before going back to MMA, Ngannou had suffered two defeats in boxing from Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
