Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie is expected at the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, Littoral Region of Cameroon on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

The visit which begins at 10:00AM comes a few days after the health institution has been hit by a baby-theft scandal.

On Monday, an expectant mother, Esther Bell Aurelie told MMI that she had been confined at the hospital alone for over three days and her family denied access — after she raised an alarm over her missing new-born baby.

She further revealed that her baby was born when she was eight months pregnant and that she wants her baby or the fetus “if her baby had died and came out in pieces as the midwives who assisted her during delivery claimed.”

Aurelie believes the baby was stolen and is asking for justice.

She also said her communication was restricted, fueling suspicions of wrongdoing by the hospital authorities.

But the hospital director issued a statement, saying “no baby was stolen at the hospital,” and described the situation as a case of “misunderstanding between the mother and the midwives.

This is a developing story!
