Mixed feelings as British Cartoon, ‘Peppa Pig’ introduces first same-sex couple

There have been mixed feelings following the feature of a same-sex couple in the British Cartoon, “Peppa pig”.

The couple was featured in an episode titled “Families” which was aired on Channel 5 in the UK on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

In this scene, Peppa’s classmate Penny Polar introduces her same-sex parents. She says, “I’m Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mommy and my other mommy. One mommy is a doctor and one mommy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti.”

According to NBC News, the move comes ” Following years of calls for more LGBTQ characters on the show.”

It should be noted that a good number of Cameroonian children follow the British Cartoon,” Peppa Pig” daily.

However, Cameroon, being a conservative society is not receptive to the LGBTQ community.

This has therefore sparked mixed feelings within most Cameroonians who see the move as an attempt to tilt the mind of the tender ones toward accepting homosexuality as normalcy.
