Passengers using the Bamenda Mbengwi road as well as inhabitants of Mbengwi like elsewhere in the division are today indoors, stranded as there is no movement of cars coming into or leaving Mbengwi.
Today’s sit at home ghost town is part of a one month sit at home ordered every Tuesday by separatist fighters.
Separatist fighters in Momo division declared Tuesday a ghost day for one month, dedicated to the mourning of one of their fighters killed in Mbengwi two weeks ago in a confrontation with government soldiers.
This week, Thursday shall also see the road inactive again because of road maintenance.
Some positions on the road that are almost becoming impassable and have not been maintained could not be be fixed even by the population and the drivers due to fear of the fighters who plant their IEDs at such places.
This week, the fighters in the area have given permission to drivers to carry out maintenance.
They’ve been given just one day, this Thursday to repair all broken portions on the road from Bamenda right to Mbengwi. This is the reason why drivers won’t be plying the road this Thursday.
In all, this week shall see the Mbengwi road closed for 3 days, Monday, today Tuesday and Thursday.
