The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Momo, in the Northwest Region, has issued a release imposing a curfew on the movement of persons, vehicles, and motorcycles from 9 pm to 5 am.

The order, signed by the SDO, Fouda Etaba Benoit, on May 13, 2024, is effective from May 15 to May 23, 2024, across the Momo Division.

The curfew has been implemented due to the resurgence of insecurity in the area and the necessity of maintaining law and order.

According to the SDO, the decision is meant to protect the lives and property of residents amidst rising tensions and to ensure the stability of the Division.

Some observers suggest that this security measure is aimed at ensuring the safe celebration of May 20, 2024, within the division.

May 20 is a significant date in Cameroon, marking the National Day celebrations.

“Ensuring safety during this period is seen as crucial given the current climate of unrest,” said an observer.

Residents have been advised to adhere strictly to the curfew to avoid any incidents and to cooperate with security forces who will be enforcing the restrictions.

Authorities have assured the public that the measure is temporary and aimed at restoring peace and normalcy to the Division.

The curfew has elicited mixed reactions from the populace, with some expressing relief at the heightened security, while others are concerned about the disruption to daily life and economic activities.

However, the overarching sentiment is one of cautious optimism that the measure will help stabilize the situation in Momo Division.
