Mondial Travel Agency suspension
The one-month suspension of Mondial Travel Agency has precipitated a crisis, leaving passengers, students, and the agency’s employees in distress, threatening their livelihoods.
Last week, an accident at La Falias Hill in Dschang led transportation authorities to suspend Mondial’s operations. The driver involved has also been suspended for a year.
This suspension has caused significant inconvenience for many passengers, including university and high school students who had planned to travel to their hometowns for the holidays. Now, they are stranded without transportation options.
“I had plans to travel back to Bamenda today for the school break, but unfortunately, I find myself stranded here with no means of reaching my destination,” said Luc Mbome, a university student. “Mondial is the sole available option for transportation, and if their buses are not operational, I am uncertain about how I will manage to reach home on time.”
The repercussions extend beyond passenger inconvenience. Mondial’s employees are now in a precarious situation, facing a month without pay due to the suspension of operations.
“This suspension is truly devastating for us workers,” said Mondial employee Fatima Ndong with deep concern. “For many individuals, living from one paycheck to another can be quite challenging. The prospect of going an entire month without any income is undoubtedly going to pose significant difficulties.” It’s a difficult situation for our families too.
The local economy around the Kumba bus station has also been affected, with business owners who rely on passenger traffic reporting a week of lost operations.
Various individuals, including passengers, students, workers, and business owners, are calling on the government to reconsider the suspension. They argue that Mondial’s services are crucial for the region.
“This is having a devastating impact on all of us,” said Fatima Ndong. “It is crucial for the government to urgently address the situation with Mondial to prevent further harm to the public.”
Additionally, the suspension has led to a noticeable increase in transport fares from Kumba to other towns.
