More Cameroonians Flee To Neighboring Nigeria as Anglophone Crisis Worsens

The United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) has brought to the limelight, an increasing number of Cameroonian refugees trooping into the Nigerian borders, exceeding 70, 000 persons.

In a recent outing in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, the UNHCR spokesman, Gabriel Adeyemo noted Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Enugu, Taraba, and Cross River as the Nigerian States currently hosting Cameroonian refuge seekers.

While highlighting the number of Refugees to be more than 78, 000, including asylum seekers from other countries, the spokesman stated that they need more international aid, specifying $97.7 million is required to meet the needs of the refugees.

The UNHCR points out that asides from the fact that the Refugees require food assistance, they also highly need non-food assistance, like camps, shelters in the camps, blankets, and jerricans.

The increased killings of especially women and children, burning and looting of villages (houses) in The North West and South West regions confirms the influx claims of The UNHCR Representatives in Nigeria.
