This evening, at approximately 5:30 pm local time, a shooting incident occurred near the Mile 5 junction in Nkwen, Bamenda. According to an eyewitness account, gunmen identified as “Amba Boys” opened fire, resulting in the death of a motorcycle rider, of Kom origin. The source reported that many other riders fled into the surrounding bushes for safety.

The eyewitness further claimed that the Amba Boys issued a threat, demanding a complete shutdown of motorcycle taxi services on Monday, effectively declaring a “ghost town” situation.

This attack comes amidst a disturbing trend of Ambazonian fighters targeting civilians, particularly those in the transportation sector. Over the past few weeks, MMI reported the burning of a taxi by these fighters, who demanded all taxis be repainted blue and white instead of the traditional yellow. Just a couple of days ago, a civilian’s truck also fell victim to their arson.

This incident has heightened tensions in the ongoing Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon. The Anglophone regions, including the North West where Bamenda is located, have been embroiled in a conflict between the government and armed separatist groups seeking independence for the English-speaking regions.

It is important to note that this report is based on a single eyewitness account, who provided images and videos from the scene which we were able to authenticate. However, further details from local authorities are awaited. This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as they become available.
