Mount Cameroon Test Race kicks off in Buea

Dozens of athletes took off this morning from the Molyko Omnisport Stadium in Buea for the test race for the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.

The President of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Emmanuel Motombi Mbome, inaugurated the test race, signaling the official start of preparations for the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race scheduled for February 24 in Buea.

Ensuring a race that stands out, Mr. Motombi expressed the commitment of all stakeholders to make this year’s event distinctive.

“We are keeping hands on deck to make sure that this year’s race is going to be one with a difference,” he said.

The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, renowned for its challenging and scenic course, draws athletes and spectators from around the world.

Anticipation is high for this year’s Mount Cameroon Race, with more than 600 athletes expected to participate, including representatives from several countries.

Last year’s edition witnessed athletes from 13 countries competing in the annual event, adding to its international allure.

In addition to the Buea test race, another test event is concurrently taking place in Yaoundé on Mount Mbankolo, in prelude to the February event.

Mr. Motombi disclosed that additional test races are planned in Ebolowa, the West Region, and the East Region in the coming days.

“All the regions do qualification races to qualify athletes per Region who are going to take part in the main race,” he said.

This approach ensures a fair representation of athletes from various regions in the final event.

The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is not only a sporting spectacle but also an emblematic event that showcases the beauty and endurance of the region.
