Mourners beat girls for stealing at Bamenda Hospital mortuary

Two young girls were severely beaten by angry mourners at the Bamenda hospital mortuary. The two narrowly escaped death after the crowd descended on them for stealing a lady’s bag.

The two girls stole the bag at the mortuary on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, when a family was there to remove the remains of a loved one for burial.

Some angry mourners demanded they be killed and kept at the mortuary, but others declined.

“They were there crying and behaving as if the deceased was a relative. Little did we know they were on a mission to steal. They were caught after they had stolen the bag and given serious beatings when some said they would be killed, but many rejected the call,” Hans, a witness told MMI and added that they were asked never to be seen around the mortuary premises again, even if the remains of their relative had been preserved there; otherwise, they would be kept in the mortuary.

This is not the first time such an incident has taken place at the Regional Hospital Mortuary in Bamenda.

Some time ago, a young man was caught after he stole a smartphone belonging to the son of the man whose body was being removed from the mortuary.

He was one of those crying and consoling the boy while scheming on how to steal his phone.

He was caught just when he was about to leave with the phone after the victim realised his phone was missing.

He was handed over to security officials.
