The Member of Parliament, MP for Boyo, Hon. Njong Evaristus has begun pressing for the relaunch of works on the Bamenda Referral Hospital Project site.

According to Hon Njong, it is time for promises to be translated into concrete actions.

The opposition MP made the call in an interview granted on the sidelines of the ongoing March session of Parliament.

The Member of Parliament for Boyo has since been decrying the stagnation of the project.

“We have been talking about the contractor especially the feet dragging attitude. Other referral hospitals are already functioning but ours in Bamenda is at a standstill. The pretentious excuse is about insecurity. They are projects that are going on”, he said.

We gathered that a parliamentary fact-finding mission visited the site in February 2021 and noticed that only 7 out of the 14 apartments have been raised above ground level.

Construction works for the referral hospital in the Nkwen Bamenda III subdivision were suspended in 2018.

The construction firm that was handling the project cited insecurity.

The contract for the 15 billion CFA francs project had long elapsed.

The construction of the Bamenda Referral Hospital was expected to last for 18 months.

This was following the launch of the project in May 2017 by former Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda.

10 billion FCFA was set aside for the building and 5 billion FCFA for equipment.
