MTN Elite One: Six games you should watch out for today

By Tata Mbunwe

Saturday, October 14, is one of the busiest days for the MTN Elite One Championship since the tournament started on September 27.

Six games will entertain fans today, two in Pool A and four in Pool B, as match day three of the Championship gains steam.

Victoria United of Limbe (a.k.a. OPOPO) will play its first at-home game as it faces Stade Renard of Melong at the Limbe Centenary Stadium at 3pm.

The club is paired in Group B alongside Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda and nine other clubs.

OPOPO kicked off the Elite One with a 2-1 victory against Fauve Azur but lost 0-1 to Coton Sport on match day two.

On the other hand, Yong Sport Academy, which has played just one game so far — which was a draw — will lock horns with Avion Academy at the Bamendzi stadium in Bafoussam.

The game that was initially planned to take place at the Mbouda municipal stadium will kick off at 3pm.

In other games, the current Cameroon Cup champions, Fovu of Baham, will face UMS of Loum at the Mbappe-Leppe stadium in Douala at 1:30pm.

Fovu has drawn its two previous games, but UMS has, so far, played none since the competition began.

Its first match against Avion Academy was postponed after Avion officials refused to allow the game to proceed.

They claimed UMS lacked licenses for its players and playing the game would violate FECAFOOT standards.

On match day two, UMS was placed on the reserve list in Pool B. It is still uncertain if the club will play its day three game today.

Still in Pool B, Coton Sport of Garoua will play Fauve Azur at the Ngoa-Ekelle stadium in Yaounde at 5pm.

In the two Pool A games playing today, AS Fortuna will clash with Astres FC at the Ngoa-Ekelle stadium at 3pm, while Dynamo will play Aigle Royal at the Mbappe-Leppe stadium at 3:30pm.

PWD of Bamenda kicked off match day three on a 0-0 draw with Colombe of the Dja and Lobo.

The Abakwa Boys have four points. They have so far won one game, lost one and drawn another.
