Today is not a Monday or a ghost town day in Muyuka, South West Region of Cameroon. Yet, the town’s streets are empty with very few people or vehicles plying the roads.
Joe (not his real name), a resident of the town thinks it is better to keep safe than to be sorry as the country’s national day is less than 24 hours away.
“Everybody is afraid because of the national day. Everybody is afraid and everywhere is locked…. No vehicle is going down to Kumba or Muyuka” he explains.
On March 8, a bomb was detonated in Bamenda during the women’s day march past.
While there will be no celebrations marking the national day, many residents in the restive English Speaking Regions say they fear for the worse.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Cameroon government called off celebrations for this year’s national day.
