Douala based television station, My Media Prime, has condemned what it describes as defamatory remarks made by Cameroon’s 2025 election aspirant, Prof Jean Bahebeck, during a recent appearance on the program, Libre Expression.

Parfait Ayissi hosted the program, which Info TV aired on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

In the statement released Monday, June 2, My Media Prime’s management denounced the professor’s claims that that station and one of its journalists, Lasha Kingsly, are part of a “mafia network” working to discredit certain presidential candidates.

My Media Prime TV labeled the accusations as baseless and damaging to both the reputation of its journalist and the integrity of the institution.

“It is deeply concerning that Professor Bahebeck would make such serious allegations on a public platform without presenting any credible evidence,” the release reads.

Not the First Time

The TV station recalled that this was not the first time Professor Bahebeck had taken issue with its programming.

After a segment featuring activist Henriette Ekwe aired on May 4, 2025, Bahebeck had requested a right of reply, a request the station granted, citing its commitment to journalistic professionalism and compliance with Cameroon’s media laws.

However, tensions reportedly escalated during Prof Bahebeck’s invitation to the May 24 edition of Tribune, a television talk show on My Media Prime.

According to the TV station, the professor refused to answer a direct question journalist Lasha Kingsly posed, despite having received the interview topic in advance, in accordance with established media protocol.

“In light of these malicious allegations, we have decided to take legal action against Professor Jean Bahebeck for defamation,” the station announced.

“We believe in the rule of law and trust that justice will take its due course.”

The channel also called on media professionals and the public to resist the spread of unverified claims, warning that such conduct undermines the foundations of the country’s democratic society.
