Neba Laurence Tchokong has told Mimi Mefo Info that the police are detaining his son, Nsoh Rene unjustly.
Nsoh Rene has been in detention at the Judicial Police Down Town Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon since Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
Speaking to Mimi Mefo Info on phone Monday, April 12, 2021, Nsoh Rene’s father, Neba Laurence Tchokong said, “Rene was arrested in his workshop at the Bamenda Food Market by uniform men. They are accusing him of fabricating and detonating a local bomb in an uncompleted building.”
According to Neba Laurence, “My son is not a producer of local bombs. He is innocent. He is a telephone repairer. Why are they victimizing my son for nothing?” He questions.
To the parents, their son is only a phone repairer and nothing else.
Before the arrest of Nsoh Rene by security forces on April 6, pro-government social media platforms had published his pictures, attributing him to a local bomb explosion adjacent to Tribune A of the Grandstand at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue in Bamenda on March 8, 2020.
A Facebook page called “My Kontri Pipo Dem” writes “…we have Intel that the primitive bomb planted in Mulang was done by Nsoh Rene. He believes that he has a ‘baba’ witch doctor that will make him disappear.”
The bomb exploded on March 8, 2020, when the governor of the North West Adolphe Lele L’Afrique was addressing women on the occasion to mark the celebration of International Women’s Day.
Several trusted sources have told Mimi Mefo Info that Nsoh Rene is a committed Catholic Christian of Regina Parish Mulang. He is also a singer in the “Regina Caeli Singer” Choir.
In Bamenda, some individuals believe that judicial authorities can only be better placed to determine Rene’s innocence or involvement in the explosion.
At the time of this report, Nsoh Rene had not been formally charged in court.
