Kumba municipality in chaos. Councillors of the Kumba II in Meme, staged a walkout in a session this Friday, over months of unpaid social benefits. The grumbling councillors say they have not received a franc from the municipality for seven months now. They say Mayor, Forcha Martin Ndobegang is responsible for their predicaments. The Mayor on his part said the Anglophone crisis rendered revenue collection impossible.
High insecurity in Mbonge Subdivision, Meme Division of the South West region has compelled councillors to organise their budgetary session out of the municipality. Councilors out of fear of the unknown met in Kumba for a budgetary session that ended with the adoption of a FCFA 980 million budget for the coming year. It however remains uncertain how the budget will be executed in the “extremely” unsecured Mbonge whose councilors and local authorities have escaped for safety.
Councillors of the Muyuka Council have been challenged to work for the interest of the community and not individual interest.The call was made by the Mayor Nkeng Micheal of the area during the budgetary session of the council. Meeting in Muyuka, councillors said Muyuka was sidelined from the Major National Dialogue as no delegate who attended the event came from the subdivision.
Pressure from opposition political parties in Cameroon has pushed the Director of Taxation in the Ministry of Finance to react. In a document released Thursday, Modest Mopa Fatoing said the Taxation Clearance requested as one of the documents, in the file of candidates running for Municipal and legislative elections in Cameroon will be offered without charge. The document, he recalls is to prove the conformity of the fiscal eligibility of each and every candidate.
Women have been challenged to massively engage themselves in the upcoming municipal and legislative elections in Cameroon. In a workshop in Yaounde Friday, More Women in Politics called on women to do all it takes, to be part of the lists of different parties running for the elections. Cameroon is in active preparation ahead of Tokyo Olympic games next year as the President of the international Olympic committee is in Cameroon. Thomas Bach arrived yesterday in Yaounde and has held talks with officials to reinforce ties between Cameroon and the international Olympic committee. He was at the national Olympic committee today. His visit is coming few months away from the Olympic games in Tokyo.
Several opposition political parties in Cameroon have been pointing accusing fingers on local administrative officials for creating unnecessary administrative barriers in the process of compilation and deposition of documents for municipal and legislative elections next year. Burundi’s opposition politician Marie Claire Niyongere was sexually assaulted before being killed and her body dumped in a forest, a local administrator has told the BBC Great Lakes.
