National Episcopal Conference condemns Kumba massacre

The Cameroon national episcopal conference has condemned the brutal killing of seven students and the wounding of over a dozen others at Mother Francisca International Memorial Academy Fiango Kumba.

Bishop Andrew Nkea in a statement in Yaounde Tuesday November 3rd 2020 says “… the position of bishops in Cameroon has always been for peace, dialogue and reconciliation to end the violence. We strongly condemn the killings in Kumba. It is time for Cameroonians to reason and chart a way for peace.”

Bishops in Cameroon accept that the killing of students in a private school in Fiango Kumba on the 24th of October 2020 has created psychological panic in the minds of teachers and students. Despite this, Bishop Andrew Nkea, who is vice president of the national episcopal conference says “…in as much as there is insecurity, we are calling on the warring fractions to respect school areas and permit children pursue their bright future by attending school.”

Note that Catholic schools and mission schools in general in the anglophone regions have also been targeted by separatist fighters.

The National episcopal meeting opened today and is set to run to November 6th 2020.
