Nationwide protest of Cameroon lawyers: Is the Bar Council planning to make a u-turn?

The Secretary General of the Bar Council on behalf of the President has convened an extraordinary meeting Sunday September 15, 2019 in Yaounde.

“The meeting will review resolutions of the August 31 Bar General Assembly, after evaluating measures taken so far by government,” Me Philippe Memong, the Bar Council Scribe said.

The Ministry of justice, and other state institutions notably the Ministry of Defence, the National gendarmerie, security and penitentiary officials agreed to address the plights of lawyers following a Yaounde meeting aimed at dissuading the latter from orchestrating the announced protest plan.

Lawyers amongst other issues complained of violation of their rights, arrest of their colleagues.

The strike called by the Cameroon Bar Council was to hold between September 16 – 26 Strike across the country.

Will the lawyers be backing out of their plan, only time will tell.
