The Cameroon military has been accused of killing a popular businessman in Bamali, Ndop Central subdivision, Ngokentunjia division of the country’s restive North West region.

According to local sources in Bamali, soldiers opened fire on the businessman whose only name MMI got as Felix Sunday. Felix was said to be returning from the market when he was killed Sunday February 6.

Like many others in the crisis-hit areas, Felix, a source said, was trying to survive despite the hardship caused by the ongoing armed conflict between the army and separatists.

“The young man was killed yesterday on his way back from the market back ,” a source testified. The latest killing, our source went on, is one of many in recent times orchestrated by the soldiers whom they said have shown little or no respect for human life.

Another source disclosed that, last week, “another guy by name Paul was pulled out of his house and shot dead”. Paul, the informant stated, was killed for allegedly serving separatist fighters with drinks in his bar.

These extrajudicial killings add to thousands of persons already killed in the ongoing conflict. Government and separatists, some of whose leaders are jailed in Yaounde, have been unable to reach a compromise for close to five years today.
