The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has announced the introduction of a new series of coin denominations in April 2025, across Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, and Chad, the six countries that make up the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).

Yvon Sana Bangui, Governor of BEAC, disclosed this information on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, after meeting with Maréchal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the President of CEMAC and President of Chad.

BEAC also indicated that the coin denominations introduced include 150 CFA francs, 250 CFA francs, and 350 CFA francs.

“This strategic move aims to simplify transactions that frequently result in the accumulation of smaller denominations, thereby reducing the demand for lower-value coins,” BEAC President affirmed.

He went further to explain that, “The rationale behind these specific denominations stems from common pricing structures observed in markets across the region. Many goods and services feature prices that align with the new coin values, making transactions smoother and reducing the need for multiple coins to achieve exact payments.

Many believe that the introduction of these new denominations will further bring much-needed relief. Public transport operators, market vendors, and consumers alike are optimistic that these changes will lead to smoother daily transactions and a revitalized economic environment.
