Colonel Enye’e Meka Manuel officially takes command as the military commander of the 21st Motorised Infantry Brigade (BIM). He aims to strengthen security and restore peace in the South West region, where separatist threats challenge stability.

The transfer of command ceremony, held at Buea Independence Square, was presided over by Brigadier General Eba Eba Benoit, Thursday, March 6, 3025.

Addressing military personnel and officials, he stressed the critical role the 21st Motorised Infantry Brigade must play in preserving national unity and protecting civilians.

“Faced with the threats to partition our dear and beautiful country that emerged in the South West region, with the procession of atrocities and acts of predation on the population, it is imperative that security forces stand firm in their duty,” Brigadier General Benoit declared.

“Colonel Enye’e Meka Manuel, as commander of the 21st Motorised Infantry Brigade, you are now entrusted with this responsibility.”

Huge Task Ahead

Taking the helm of the brigade, Colonel Enye’e Meka Manuel acknowledged the magnitude of the task ahead but remained resolute in his commitment to tackling insecurity and fostering unity.

“I can guarantee that I will continue to maintain the security umbrella and meet all challenges because I am not alone. I have a major state, the commanders of the formation who are in charge of the task, and we will continue all efforts to eliminate threats,” he stated.

With separatist activities causing unrest in the region, Colonel Meka outlined his priorities: “Cohesion and peace. We believe we can achieve this through our experience and, above all, because we are well trained. We have a high hierarchy that supports the good work of these men.”

At 56, Colonel Meka brings decades of military experience, having served in key positions across Adamawa, Littoral, South, and South West regions.

His appointment follows the tenure of Colonel Louis Onambele, who played a crucial role in counterinsurgency operations and stabilizing the region.

Colonel Meka’s leadership will also focus on enhancing military coordination, securing communities under threat, and ensuring cooperation between security forces and administrative authorities.

His approach underscores the military’s renewed commitment to restoring order in the South West region, where years of conflict have disrupted livelihoods and governance.

Commander Remains Confident

Despite the challenges, Colonel Meka remains confident in his team and mission.

“I love this challenge because I am not alone. I work with God, all my colleagues, and my family,” he affirmed.

The population, however, expects the new military commander to enhance human rights regulations at the 21st Motorised Infantry Brigade, known for conducting interrogations and other activities that raise serious rights concerns.
