New traditional ruler of Baba I, 9-year-old, HRH Fon Fue Nghaper II, officially presented to the public

The new Fon of Baba I village in Cameroon’s Northwest Region, the nine-year-old Fon Fue Nghaper II, was officially presented to the public yesterday after he was chosen to succeed his ‘missing’ father earlier this week.

Members of the secret society, “Ngumba”, officially presented His Royal Highness (HRH) Fon Fue Nghaper II to a crowd of Baba I natives yesterday, officially debunking reports that he had been rejected for the throne.

The young ruler was clad in traditional attire, his face masked, as “Ngumba” members led him to the waiting public.

The new Fon Fue Nghaper II was chosen by Baba I Kingmakers on Monday, May 8, after his father, Fon Fuekemshi II, went ‘missing’ on May 2.

Media reports recently alleged that most of the Baba I Kingmakers had rejected the choice of the young Fon, arguing that tradition was never respected when he was being chosen.

Reports say the new Fon is the son of the last wife of the late Fon, but little is known as to what let the Kingmakers into choosing him as successor.

Such a decision, however, is usually taken meticulously and in respect of tradition to avoid future quarrels.

The public presentation of Fon Fue Nghaper II is expected to officially silence whatever opposition anyone might have had against him being the Fon.
