Penitentiary authorities at the Kondengui Principal Prison in Yaounde have threatened to sanction any inmate found in possession of a mobile phone and other prohibited objects and substances. Among the said sanctions, defaulters will be chained for 15 days in a cell. Many have called out the authorities, citing the move as an attempt to clam down on those detained within the context of the Anglophone crisis.


The National Assembly today debated on a bill on human health research. The bill that was defended by the Minister of Public Health Dr Manaouda Malachie seeks to protect subjects during medical research and clinical trials.


Batonier, Akere Muna has criticized government’s sanctioning of Equinoxe TV Director General and Editor-in-chief. The former presidential candidate said Equinoxe TV was simply a medium but was sanctioned while perpetrators of hate speech carry on elsewhere in the media, undisturbed.


A microfinance institution in Douala was today burgled by armed men. Witnesses say two men stormed the institution while one waited for them outside on a bike. They eventually made a way with some items, after firing shots in the air.


A new agreement is expected to see a boost in the quality and delivery time frame of certain official documents. Government reached the deal with Impact Pamares, which will see both entities work together to produce biometric visas, consular cards. Among others, it is expected to reduce or eradicate use of counterfeit documents.
