Women today marched in different towns across the country in celebration of the 37th edition of the International Women’s Day. In most parts of the conflict-ridden North West and South West regions however, residents stayed indoors for fear of violence from separatist fighters. In the past five years, the fighters have threatened and sometimes attacked civilians for partaking in events organised by government.

Women across Anglophone regions of Cameroon celebrated Women’s Day today, maintaining stony silence over the detention of Antoinette Kongso, a nursing mother and her four-month-old baby. Kongso is alleged to be ex-girlfriend of self-styled Ambazonian General “No Pity.” She is currently being held in pre-trial detention at the Buea Central Prison for simply having former affiliations with the Ambazonian General.


Adolph Lele L’afrique, governor of Cameroon’s restive North West Region today appealed to the diaspora to stop intoxicating youths. He made the appeal after chairing the Women’s Day march past event in Bamenda. He urged them to remain ambassadors, and protect the country’s image.

In the South West, the delegation of Women’s Empowerment and the Family honoured a woman said to be the oldest in the region.Rose Limunga Njie said to be 122 years of age was handed a certificate and cash.


A teacher who made rounds on social media, whose only name MMI got as Hamidou in the context of the OTS/ Dead Chalk Protest claiming he was owed 10 years salary has passed away. The teacher is reported to have died today after a brief illness.



Several persons have survived a fire incident in Douala today. It happened at a building opposite the Chococam factory. An elderly woman and her grandchildren were saved from the fire.



The Principal of Government Bilingual High School Bonaberi-Douala has asked students of the school to stay at home till March 14. He has also asked parents to teach their children at home in preparation for upcoming evaluation exams. This comes as teachers across some regions have been protesting against poor work conditions and non-payment of salaries.


Mayors in the North West Region have set as target, the transportation of 2,300 fans to Yaounde to watch the Cameroon cup final. They have pledged to provide buses to facilitate the movement, to boost the moral of PWD of Bamenda as it faces Astres FC of Douala on Sunday March 13th.
