Ngarbuh massacre perpetrators appear in court

Three soldiers and a member of a government-sponsored vigilante group who were involved in the brutal killing of women and children in Ngarbuh are standing trial today before the military court in Yaounde, the country’s capital. Ngarbuh is a neighbourhood in the town of Ntumbaw, in Ndu, Donga-Mantung Division, Northwest Region, Cameroon

One of the lawyers defending the claimants of the victims, Barrister Tamfu Richard, told Mimi Mefo Info that the hearing will be open to the public.

The accused, arrested, or detained are:

1-Baba Guida
2- Sanding Sanding Cyrille
3-Haranga Gilbert
4-Tata Nfor Maxwell, alias Bullet, and unidentified members of a vigilante group.

The hearing has yet to begin, MMI was told.

Ngarbuh Massacre Explained!

When local media and international NGOs faulted the military in the February 14th, 2020 killings, the government denied that the army was involved.

But after independent forensics proved otherwise, Cameroon’s presidency issued a statement late in April 2020, and said three soldiers, along with members of a vigilante group, had stormed a separatist rebel base, killing five people, before “discovering that three women and 10 children were killed” in the firefight.

The government claimed it was a mistake and accepted to bring perpetrators to justice and compensate the victims.

Another White Elephant Project

The Yaounde regime has never matched words with actions since it admitted the military’s role in the killings. Victims have never received compensation, and “they are still unaware, when justice will finally be served,” explains Barrister Tamfu.

It is widely believed that the real orchestrators of violence and killings in Anglophone Cameroon are hiding in offices – with no signal of an end anytime soon.

Human Rights Watch said over a year ago that violence in the Anglophone regions has claimed an estimated 3,000 lives and caused the displacement of over 730,000 civilians, but thousands of people have been killed as the conflict deepens.
