Nigeria: Biafrans Launch New Government to Speed Up Secessionist Movement

The Indigenous People of Biafra have created a new government in the Igbo Land in Nigeria that is expected to take their secessionist agenda to the next level.

The initiative headed by Asari Dokubo is amongst other things expected to stand up to the Federal Government of Nigeria and negotiate their way out of the Federal Republic to an independent nation, a movement that has lasted now for several decades.

The leader of the new customary government, a leading Niger Delta Militant has accused the Federal Government of Nigeria of injustice and gross marginalization of Biafrans (Igbos) in Nigeria.

Like the Anglophones in Cameroon, the Biafrans in Nigeria are determined to secede from Nigeria into an independent nation. Biafrans say they have been grossly marginalized across the years and not been regarded as full members of the Union, hence a need to separate from the country.

The highpoint of the Biafran crisis was between 1967-1970 with the Nigerian Civil War or the Biafran war, whereby more than 2 million Biafrans perished of war and hunger. Amongst a host of countries which helped to suppress the movement in Nigeria back then was the Federal Republic of Cameroon led by President Ahmadou Ahidjo.
