The presiding judge over the case, Justice Binta denied going through with the trial given that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was not present at the court during the time of the hearing.
Logistics concerns have been advanced as the reason for Kanu’s court absence.
There were a number of protesters outside the courtroom, showing solidarity with the arrested separatist leader. The hearing has now been adjourned to a later date.
Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in Kenya and returned to Nigeria over a month ago. He has British citizenship and is currently the Head of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Biafra) seeking to secede from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
