Separatist fighters are said to have shot a man dead in Akwaya, a border subdivision with Nigeria.
Locals say a commercial motorbike rider was transporting a passenger to Utanga in neighboring Nigeria when they were stopped at a control post mounted by separatist fighters.
“The [Amba] boys asked them for money but the bike rider decided to start his bike and take off,” a local tells MMI, adding that, “One of the boys shot the passenger, a Mbororo from behind”.
The situation is said to have left Cameroonian refugees living in Utanga, Nigeria on the run for fear of retaliation from their host population.
