Update: Chef Dammy Pass has now completed over 120 hours as of Tuesday night, June 13th 2023. This means she has effectively beaten the record of Hilda Baci. Hilda was officially confirmed as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual) of the by the Guinness World Records.
A Nigerian chef, Dammy Pass has already completed 120 hours in a cooking marathon — aimed at beating the record of Hilda Bassey.
Dammy Pass started cooking on Friday and had her eyes set on reaching 120 hours.
“We’re coming for the Guinness World Record,” she tweeted at the start of the process.
Dammy who was being assisted by other chefs has since Friday, June 9th, 2023, could be see in a livestream cooking non-stop.
She won the hearts of many Nigerians who supported and rooted for her to complete the 120-hour target.
“It’s a fair game. Nigerians should stop hating on Dammy. She feels she can beat the record, she should. If you feel you can beat it too, try. Use the same energy you used for Hilder to support Dammy too. We all supported Hilda and never considered the indian chef’s feelings,” said Ila Bappa, a twitter user.
“…So, what’s the ‘problem’ with another person trying to go after a record? In life, once something has crept into public consciousness, it becomes a ‘fair game.’ Didn’t Hilda Baci try to knock someone else off? I guess it didn’t matter because that person is Indian? Ohh, your thinking is that a Nigerian shouldn’t try to displace another yet-to-be-confirmed Nigerian?” Banke Oniru wrote.
But some Nigerians think Africans should let Hilda Bassey enjoy her ‘fame’ for a while before challenging.
Asonye Queen has reacted saying: “I don’t understand why some Africans are too selfish, no India man or woman contested against that lady oh.
But just a few weeks after Hilda bacci tried to break records for our country Nigeria and Africa we can’t even allow her to enjoy the fame.”
Here are more reactions.
This is not the first person to also strive for the crown, shortly after Hilda.
A Liberian Chef, started but only made it up to seven hours — and there were no further updates.
Hilda Bassey was on Tuesday June 13th, officially confirmed as record holder for highest time spent cooking by the Guinness book of world records, many weeks after she completed her feat.
