A Nigerian senator will appear in court in London, later today Thursday 07 July 2022, on charges of attempting to bring a boy to the UK so that his organs might be harvested.
Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice are accused of violating UK laws aimed at preventing modern slavery.
Since last month, they have been held in jail in Britain.
The suspected victim, according to the Metropolitan Police, who detained the pair, is 15 years old, the BBC has reported.
Mr. Ekweremadu will be appearing before the court for the third time. He has not pleaded guilty.
The Nigerian parliament has moved to have the nation’s high commission in the UK employ a counsel for his defense in response to his arrest and detention alongside his wife.
The problem of human organ trafficking is a serious plague within Nigerian society, and it comes as no surprise to many that a lawmaker should be caught committing such an offense.
