Nigerian Pastor arrested for allegedly raping teenager in Douala

The population of Mboppi, a neighbourhood in Douala, seized and severely beat a Pastor of Nigerian nationality after a 14-year-old girl confessed she was lured and raped by the Pastor.

A neighbour said Pastor Eddy Etatam, 41, lured the teenager into his apartment, where he raped her and attempted to shut her up with FCFA 5,000.

“All her screams could not be heard because it was already raining. We had looked for her to no avail. After the rain had subsided, she returned. Her mood had changed, and they suspected she wasn’t okay,” the neighbour said.

“After serious questioning, she presented an FCFA 5,000 banknote that the pastor had given her and warned her not to say a word about what had happened.”

Reports say this little girl had gone downstairs to pick up dresses since it was about to rain.

She was on her way up when she met with Pastor Eddy Etatam of Living Faith Church, who lured her into his apartment and forced himself on her.

After her guardians found out what had happened, they alarmed neighbours, who stormed the Pastor’s apartment and manhandled him before handing him to the police.

In a video by Shey Waves, that circulated on social media, neighbours could be heard saying: “This is the pastor that has raped a 14-year-old girl and gave her 5,000 francs. Members of your Church need to know that you are a devil in human form.”

The police rescued him from the mob. Many preferred that the accused be left with the population for “jungle justice” to be meted out to him. They accused the police of being corrupt.

“He will buy his way out. The Cameroonian Judicial system is very corrupt. Mob justice is the best for people like that,” said Nickson F, a resident of Mboppi.

The resident asked authorities to ensure that justice is served and the accused is severely punished if found guilty in order to scare potential rapists.
