Several world leaders, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, have vehemently condemned the attempted assassination of the former US President and candidate for the Republican Party, Donald Trump.

Trump was injured on Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when 20-year-old Thomas Mathew Crooks, now dead, tried to assassinate him.

The bullet missed Trump but pierced his right ear, leaving his face stained with blood.

The US Secret Service immediately neutralised the threat.

After that, some world leaders, including those from Russia, Canada, Europe, and Africa, have condemned the attack, calling for restraint and a stop to political violence.

Canadian PM, Justine Trudeau, said the attack was unacceptable.

“I’m sickened by the shooting at former President Trump. It cannot be overstated–political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event, and all Americans,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said, “I strongly condemn the assassination attempt against the 45th president of the US and presidential candidate, Donald Trump.”

Meanwhile, the Krimlim spokesperson blamed the attack on the current US administration.

“After numerous attempts to remove candidate Trump from the political arena—using the first legal tools—the court, the prosecutor, and attempts to politically discredit and compromise the candidate—it was obvious to all outside observers that his life was in danger,” said the Russian Presidency.

In Africa, the Presidents of Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria have equally sympathise with Trump.

“I express my wishes for Trump’s speedy recovery and for the U.S. election campaigns to be resumed in a peaceful and healthy atmosphere, free of any aspects of terrorism, violence, or hatred,” said Egyptian President, Abdel Fatal El Sisi.

As for the South African President, the US people should seek peace.

“We unequivocally denounce this political violence and earnestly hope that the citizens and leaders of America will have the fortitude and sagacity to reject violence and seek peaceful solutions,” Cyril Ramaphosa said.

Bola Tinubu of Nigeria said political violence has no place in a democracy.

“The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in a democracy. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
