Nigerian separatists allegedly kill five BIR elements at Bakassi Peninsula

Five elements of the Cameroon Rapid Intervention Battalion are said to have been neutralized during clashes with Nigerian Biafra separatist fighters.

According to several Nigerian media outlets, the Cameroonian soldiers were ambushed while trying to attack a base of Biafra separatists.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday, July 23, 2022, in Isangele, in the South West of Cameroon.

“The elements of the BIR arrived in the Biafra camp and dismantled two flags of the Biafra separatist movement which were hoisted in this camp. They wanted to advance towards the camp when the separatists opened fire on them, killing five soldiers,” Sahara Reporters indicated.

Another media outlet, The newspaper daily reported that “Five elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), an elite corps of the Cameroonian army, were killed on Saturday in clashes with Nigerian separatists from the Biafra movement in Isangele.”

One of the Nigerian separatist fighters was said to have been equally neutralized in the clash.
