The high court of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Nigeria, has sentenced three young men to death by hanging for armed robbery and conspiracy, Vanguard Newspaper has reported.

They were charged for stealing items including phones, laptop computer, sandals, phone chargers and power banks estimated to cost N186,000.

Delivering the judgment recently, Justice Bamidele Omotoso said the charge levied against them was proven in court beyond reasonable doubt.

“I am of the strong opinion that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offence of armed robbery against defendants. They are hereby found guilty as charged and convicted for the offence of armed robbery,” Vanguard quoted him.

“The sentence of the court upon you Omotayo Deji, Chidiebere Ifeanyin and Bolaji Usman is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead and may the Lord have mercy on your souls,” Justice Omotosho added.

The prosecution counsel had told the court the convicts robbed occupants of a students private hostel at Aba Erinfun in Ado-Ekiti, on May 6, 2019, where they carted valuables.

The convicts were armed with cutlass and wooden plank when they robbed occupants of the hostel, including Stephen Ademiloye, Temitope Olokuntoye and Kolade Ajayi.
