“No peace, No election ” Prof. Kamto

The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM Professor Maurice Kamto has provided series of justifications, why his party is not taking part in next year’s legislative and municipal elections in Cameroon. In a press conference Monday November 25, 2019, Prof. Kamto cited administrative bottlenecks, the Anglophone Crisis among other reasons. To the CRM leader, his party will not go in for the election due to “several obstacles put in place especially constraints faced by CRM candidates in compiling documents”.The party it should be recalled, had complained about bottle necks and delays in public offices charged with certifying required documents.Another reason the MRC president advanced is the crisis in the Anglophone regions which has forced hundred of thousands to flee. To him, government should “create an enabling environment for the population of the two regions to actively take part in the elections”. He urged the Biya regime to ensure that peace is restored in the restive regions. In his press conference, Kamto also called on other opposition parties to boycott the elections. The call comes after the SDF party saw some if its candidates in the Anglophone regions decline investiture. They cited insecurity and the ongoing Anglophone crisis.Other CRM militants are still being held in prison despite the release of Kamto, allies and party members.Following the recent decision of the CRM, there are fears of an uncertain political climate like what prevailed during and after the 2018 presidential election.Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji today, warned that any civil disobedience will not be entertained.Professor Maurice Kamto defiled administrative orders and held nationwide protest against electoral fraud. According to him, he emerged winner of the 2018 polls in Cameroon and not Paul Biya. At least five key opposition parties have also said they will not take part in the twin elections come February next year.
