One of Africa’s most decorated movie stars, Rita Dominic, has taken over the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant.
Dominic and renowned film director Mildred Okwo’s production company, The Audrey Silva Company (TASC), has now partnered with Folio Communications, which has been in charge of organizing the pageant for the past 16 years.
With over 25 years of experience in the entertainment industry, Dominic believes she has the necessary skills and knowledge.
She said that the pageant is a true representation of a united Nigeria. Over the years, it has empowered young women from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions.
The founder of Folio Communications and publisher of the Daily Times newspaper, Fidelis Anosike, is excited to pass the torch to Dominic and TASC.
He believes that they are the ideal organisation to continue the legacy of Miss Nigeria and take it to the next level.
Dominic is known for her intellect, fashion, and style. She is expected to elevate the status of the historic pageant and make it more exciting for a new generation of viewers.
The Managing Director of TASC, Okwo, said that they will create a product that is capable of not only empowering young Nigerian women but also exciting the audiences of the new generation.
Miss Nigeria will now operate under a new business entity known as Miss Nigeria 1957 Enterprises, a.k.a. Miss Nigeria Organisation.
Dominic will chair the new board of directors, which will include highly accomplished industry leaders.
Among them are former Miss Nigeria and financial guru, Wunmi Ogunbiyi, and veteran producer and actress, Ego Boyo.
Other members include the Country Managing Director for Microsoft Nigeria & Ghana, Olatomiwa Williams; Associate Vice President, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Aisha Kyari, and entrepreneur Senami Ibori.
The national newspaper, Daily Times, created the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant in 1957.
The winner of the pageant serves as an exemplary role model for other young Nigerian women.
In recent years, the pageant has embraced inclusivity and diversity, as seen in the recent crowning of Shatu Garko. She was the first Muslim to win the pageant.
Dominic’s takeover of the Miss Nigeria pageant is a significant moment for the Nigerian entertainment industry.
