Nollywood actor Yul Edochie turns Pastor, opens online Church

By Tata Mbunwe

Controversial Nollywood star Yul Edochie is now Pastor of an online Church, True Salvation Ministries, which he says he opened in response to the call of God.

This move follows the actor’s controversial journey through polygamy and divorce that garnered immense attention online for the past few years.

Yul Edochie, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s movie industry, announced his entry into Ministry on Wednesday, January 24, through a message shared on his social media accounts.

Accompanied by a poster unveiling his new Church, the announcement carried a message: “It’s time to answer the call of God Almighty. It’s time to do His work fully. To spread the true message of God. Tune in, and be transformed.”

In his inaugural live service on Sunday, Yul shared the circumstances that led to his spiritual awakening.

The actor narrated a recent life-altering car accident that served as a pivotal moment, prompting him to fully embrace his divine calling.

Having narrowly escaped a potentially fatal outcome, Yul described a transformative experience where a compelling voice urged him to dedicate his life to serving God and humanity.

This revelation marked the beginning of what he referred to as his “second life,” distinct from his previous pursuits.

He said he initially envisioned a physical Church and a big congregation, but God guided him to start small using the resources at his disposal.

The actor has been actively sharing messages of love and encouragement on his social media platforms and on his new YouTube television channel, Yul Edochie TV.

Before his recent conversion, Yul Edochie has been deeply engrossed in marital controversy since he announced plans to marry a second wife, Judi Austin, in 2021.

After 18 years of marriage, his first wife, May Yul Edochie, sought a divorce, refusing to be part of his polygamy project.

Despite these challenges, Yul married Judi and they now have two children.

The actor’s decision to embrace a new identity as a gospel preacher has stirred a wave of reactions on social media.

The announcement of True Salvation Ministries received close to 100,000 reactions on Facebook alone, with responses ranging from curiosity to skepticism.

Commenting on Yul Edochie’s announcement, Rose Mary Ogechukwu, a Facebook user, said: “ELOHIM please forgive him, He doesn’t know what he’s doing. Amen.”

Meanwhile, Golden Joel expressed a more optimistic view, stating, “The wonderful news is that our Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repentance.”
